Project introduction
SmartRec develops a modular solution that integrates waste-heat recovery with thermal storage for medium- to high-grade industrial waste heat, adaptable across temperatures and industries. Target settings include batch processes such as secondary aluminium recycling and ceramic processing with corrosive, particulate-laden flue gas.

1D transient thermodynamic pipe network process simulation; models for heat pipe heat exchangers, pumps, valves, thermal energy storage and pipe insulation; closed-loop PID control to achieve constant output from intermittent waste heat; 3D LES CFD shape optimisation of a heat pipe heat exchanger.
