Project

Adaptive Laser Beam for Additive Manufacturing
Horizon Europe · ALABAMA
Project introduction
ALABAMA develops adaptive laser technologies for additive manufacturing, shaping the laser beam spatially and temporally to reduce porosity and tailor microstructure. The work combines multiscale physics-based models, process monitoring and closed-loop control, and is demonstrated on use cases in aviation, maritime and automotive manufacturing.
Flowphys contribution
Multi-physics simulation software for AM melt pools: liquid-vapour interface and surface tension, free-surface motion, CFD-LES, Lagrangian particle tracking, laser-matter interaction, statistical defect models. Thousands of simulations run to train metamodels; process optimisation via genetic algorithms.
